PRESIDENT'S AWARD NOMINATION

LAIRD ELECTRIC

Award Laird Electric, a division of Stuart Olson Industrial, was recently nominated for the President’s Award for the turnkey construction of a client’s substation. The qualification metrics include contractor Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) performance and focus on safety throughout project execution.

SITE SAFETY RECORD


Award In 2011 we reached 25 years without a Loss Time Incident (LTI) at a site for work totaling more than 1.4 Million Man-hours. In addition, we reached 8 months without an unsafe act as per the Safe Act Index (SAI). In both cases no other contractor has gone that long with that performance. In 2010, we earned the Best Performer-Site/Region/Project for lowest injury rate amongst Alberta Petrochemical Safety Council for our contracting peer group.

1ST LEED® GOLD OFFICE BLDG IN ALBERTA

CITY OF CALGARY WATER CENTRE, CALGARY, AB

Award This unique, award winning building boasts a complex design creating a curve in both the horizontal and vertical perspective designed in the shape of a wave. In addition to its unique design, the Water Centre recycles, reduces and reuses energy, water and materials at every opportunity. This office complex was Calgary’s first eco-friendly building.

GOVERNOR GENERAL’S AWARD

RICHMOND CITY HALL, RICHMOND, BC

Award This 120,000 sq. ft. building was a multi-phased, fast-tracked project and was successfully delivered approximately $1.8 million under budget. The building employs a number of sustainable strategies related to energy and water saving, as well as enhanced indoor environmental quality.

GOLD VCRA’S AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

SURREY CITY CENTRE LIBRARY, SURREY, B.C.

Award This $ 36 million, one-of-a-kind building involved a complex building envelope and mechanical systems, with a fast-tracked schedule. To successfully deliver the concrete walls that are both curved and sloped, BIM modelling was used to plan construction activities.

VICE PRESIDENT SITE SAFETY AWARD

LAIRD ELENORTHERN INDUSTRIAL INSULATION CONTRACTORS INC. CTRIC

Award Northern Industrial Insulation Contractors Inc., a division of Stuart Olson Industrial, received the Vice-President Safety Award in 2010. The award was granted for construction at an Oil Sands Project, in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

TEKLA BIM AWARD FOR NORTH AMERICA

WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBER STADIUM (INVESTOR’S GROUP FIELD), WINNIPEG, MB

Award This unique landmark features a massive curvilinear space frame roof that covers 80% of the spectator seating and is the defining feature of the stadium. The intricate steel roofing structure was awarded the Tekla BIM Award for North America.

PRESIDENT'S AWARD BEST NEW GLOBAL DESIGN NOMINATION

JASPER PLACE LIBRARY, EDMONTON, AB

Award This LEED® Silver library with its intricately curved concrete roof, complete with skylights, and glazed curtain wall, seizes every opportunity to filter natural daylight throughout its expansive open areas. The use of BIM modelling provided invaluable insight to site personnel, while resolving several constructability issues early on.

Award This $178 million signature structure of the of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games has won over 30 awards for design and construction excellence.

FULLER AUSTIN

Award Fuller Austin, a division of Stuart Olson Industrial, was the first company to win back to back quarterly awards for overall safety culture. Key award metrics included attendance at all levels of safety meetings, innovations put into place to enhance the safety aspects of the site work, helping to grow the safety culture, and participation in field safety interactions with all companies as well as being a champion of the site wide People Based Safety Program.
